I’ve lost count of how many AI tutorials I’ve saved and never opened. You bookmark a thread, promise yourself you’ll get to it this weekend, and three months later it’s still sitting there. Sound familiar? So when I found a post that sorts the best free Claude material into a clear path from beginner to pro, I stopped scrolling right away.
The list comes from Ruben Hassid, who posts a lot about AI on LinkedIn. He calls the idea “Claude-maxxing,” and the post’s opening line hooks you fast: “AI is stealing your job, so might as well know how to use it (for free).” He’s pulled together 11 free courses on Claude and split them into three levels. You start with the basics, move on to real workflows, and finish with the pro moves.
What I like most is the order. Most people jump straight into advanced prompting before they’ve even set up their account properly. The author’s path fixes that. Here’s each level, with my notes on why every item is worth your time.
Level 1: The Basics
This level is for anyone who’s new to Claude or has only used it for quick questions. The goal is simple: get comfortable and stop making beginner mistakes.
- Claude certificate: A structured starting point that gives you a clear goal. Having a certificate to aim for makes it much easier to finish what you start.
- Claude For Dummies: A plain-language intro to what Claude is and what it can do. Start here if words like “model” or “context” still feel fuzzy.
- Stop wasting tokens: Tokens are the small chunks of text Claude reads and writes, and they count toward your usage limits. Learning to spend them wisely means longer, more useful chats before you hit a wall.
- Claude is stupid simple: A reminder that you don’t need to be technical to get great results. This one is about confidence as much as skill.
Once these feel natural, you’re ready to stop playing around and start putting Claude to work.
Level 2: Real Workflows
This is where Claude stops being a fun chatbot and turns into a real part of your workday. The courses here are about setup, habits, and building repeatable processes.
- Set up Claude: Your settings, preferences, and project setup shape every answer you get. A good setup at the start saves you from repeating the same instructions over and over.
- Switch to Claude: Made for people coming from other AI tools. It helps you bring your existing habits over without losing momentum.
- Claude for Work: Practical uses for everyday professional tasks like writing, analysis, research, and planning. This is where the time savings start to add up.
- Claude Skills: Skills let you package instructions so Claude handles a specific task the same way every time. Think of them as reusable playbooks you build once and use forever.
If you only have time for one level this week, I’d pick this one. Real workflows are where you get the biggest return for the least effort.
Level 3: The Pro Moves
The final level is for people who already use Claude every day and want to sharpen their edge. These topics separate casual users from people who are truly good at this.
- Privacy with AI: Knowing what you should and shouldn’t share with an AI tool is a must, especially if you handle client or company data. This one protects you and your work.
- Prompting Opus 5.5: Every model responds to prompts a little differently. Learning how to talk to the newest model helps you get the most out of its abilities.
- Deslop Claude: “Slop” is that generic, robotic AI writing everyone spots in seconds. This course shows how to get output that sounds natural and human, which is huge if you publish anything.
That last one deserves a special mention. AI-sounding text is becoming a real problem for anyone who writes online. Learning to cut it out might be the most valuable skill on this whole list.
The Part Most People Skip
After all those links, the creator ends with the point that hit me hardest. Here it is word for word:
Reading about AI is not using AI.
Watching a YouTube video is not using AI.
Close LinkedIn. Open Claude. Try one tough task.
That’s the real lesson. You can collect every course on the internet and still be stuck exactly where you started. The skill only shows up when you put a real problem in front of the tool and work through it.
The author also makes clear this isn’t about loyalty to one brand. In his words, the only thing that matters is “you being best at the work you do and care about,” whether you use Claude, ChatGPT, or another AI. I really respect that attitude. Tools change fast, but the habit of practicing on real work stays with you.
How to Actually Use This List
A list of 11 courses can feel like a lot, so here’s how I’d approach it based on the expert’s three-level path:
- Pick your level honestly: If you’ve never touched Projects or Skills, start at Level 1, even if it feels too basic.
- One course per week: Finish one, then use what you learned on a real task before you move on.
- Pair every lesson with a tough task: Try something like “Turn these messy meeting notes into a one-page plan with owners and deadlines.” Real work shows you the gaps fast.
- Revisit Level 3 often: Privacy and deslopping aren’t one-time lessons. They’re habits you’ll keep refining.
Working through all three levels like this could make a real difference to your skills in just a couple of months. And since every course is free, cost is no excuse.
