Ever felt like your AI video creations were stuck in an English-only world? You build a beautiful scene set in Paris, and the characters sound like they’re from Palo Alto. So frustrating! 🤯
Well, hold onto your hats. I just stumbled upon an absolutely brilliant post from Tianyu Xu, and he’s cracked the code to make Veo 3 characters speak other languages. This is a total game-changer!
Here’s the simple-but-genius trick he shared:
✍️ The 3-Step Method
- Declare the Language: In your prompt, explicitly tell Veo which language the character is using. (e.g., "and says in Mandarin:")
- Write the Script: Type the actual dialogue in your target language directly into the prompt.
- Use the API: Tianyu notes that you’ll get a much higher success rate using the Gemini/Veo API instead of the standard interface.
He even tested it with a Mandarin tongue twister! How cool is that?
⚠️ A Few Things to Watch For
Tianyu was also super helpful and shared a few known issues to keep in mind:
- The standard Flow UI might reject prompts with non-Latin characters.
- Sometimes, the audio might fail to generate.
- Your character might end up with an… unexpected accent.
He also mentioned he was testing Veo 3’s facial expressions and is pretty happy with his avatar’s acting skills, even if they can be a bit dramatic.
Seriously, go check out Tianyu Xu’s original post to see his video example and get the full scoop from the man himself. This is the kind of stuff that pushes the whole field forward!
