The current state of online dating has clearly become troublesome, given that even major platforms like Tinder are now turning to artificial intelligence personas for users to practice their flirting skills. Recently, the company unveiled a new interactive game developed in collaboration with OpenAI. This novel feature allows users to engage directly with an AI-powered chatbot to rehearse playful banter, simulate romantic first meetings, and obtain personalized scores along with tailored tips designed to enhance their dating abilities.
To access Tinder’s new feature, named The Game Game, users simply need to tap the Tinder icon located in the app’s upper-left corner. Once activated, the game grants players a set of virtual cards, each displaying unique AI characters and diverse dating scenarios. Players proceed by responding verbally, aiming to charm the AI chatbot enough to secure a simulated date.
Following each scenario, users are rated according to a three-level scoring system visualized through flame emojis. As conversations unfold, the AI provides continuous, real-time advice and constructive criticism. For example, if a participant comes across as impolite or blunt, the AI intervenes with suggestions to elevate the interaction’s tone and effectiveness.
Tinder emphasizes that The Game Game has been designed primarily as an entertaining and enjoyable distraction, not something overly serious. Currently, the game has been rolled out exclusively for iOS device users located in the United States, and it will only be available for a limited duration.
Nevertheless, the phenomenon of individuals resorting to AI chatbots for romantic interaction is swiftly becoming a popular trend—one Tinder seems eager to capitalize on amid the company’s efforts to remain competitive and spur user growth. This approach is not entirely unprecedented, with existing apps like Replika’s AI-driven romantic simulation, Blush, as well as platforms such as Teaser and Rizz already gaining attention in the AI dating segment.
This development is part of Tinder’s broader strategy to incorporate AI-driven elements into its platform, as evident from previous releases such as last year’s AI-assisted photo selection feature. Tinder plans on further expanding its AI toolkit, eyeing future capabilities aimed at improving user discovery and matchmaking processes.
