Your AI is only as smart as the questions you ask it! If you’re getting generic, unhelpful responses from tools like ChatGPT, it’s probably because your prompts are too simple. I just saw an incredible post on this, and the expert who shared it laid out some hacks that the top 1% of users rely on to get insane results.
The core idea is to stop treating the AI like a search engine and start treating it like a hyper-intelligent assistant. You have to give it context, constraints, and a clear goal. When you do, the quality of the output skyrockets.
This LinkedIn creator shared a list of 10 powerful prompting hacks, and they are seriously impressive. Here are three of my favorites that you can start using right away:
Supercharge Your Prompts
- 📌 Assign a Role. Don’t just ask a question; tell the AI who to be. Giving it a persona completely changes the tone, depth, and expertise of the answer. The post’s author suggests trying something like: “Act as a financial advisor with 20 years’ experience. Explain long-term stock investment strategies.”
- 💡 Specify the Output Format. Are you tired of getting a wall of text that you have to reformat yourself? Just tell the AI exactly how you want the information presented. The original poster gave a great example: “List five Italian dishes in a table with columns for name, region, and main ingredients.” This works for bullet points, essays, code, and more.
- ✅ Demand Step-by-Step Reasoning. When you’re trying to understand a complex topic, ask the AI to walk you through it. This forces the model to simplify its explanation and present it logically. For instance: “Explain how solar panels work step-by-step, for a 10-year-old.”
These are just a few of the tips that were shared. The full list includes other powerful techniques like Chain of Thought prompting and forcing the AI to self-check its own work.
