Veo 3: Make Your AI Characters Multilingual

Been trying to get your AI video characters to speak something other than English? Yeah, me too. It feels like a major wall for global storytelling.

But hold on, because I just saw this incredible post from the amazing Tianyu Xu, and he’s figured out a trick to make Google’s Veo 3 characters multilingual! I was blown away when I saw his example.

He laid out a super simple 3-step process. Here’s his genius method:

  • 🗣️ State the Language: In your prompt, just tell Veo 3 which language the character is speaking. For example, “…and says in Mandarin:”.
  • ✍️ Use the Native Script: Write the actual dialogue in the target language right in your prompt. No translation needed!
  • 🚀 API for the Win: Tianyu Xu found that using the Gemini/Veo API gives you a much higher success rate than the standard Flow interface.

Now, he was also super honest about a few quirks to keep in mind:

  • 📌 Flow Rejection: The regular Flow workspace might reject prompts that use non-Latin alphabets.
  • 📌 Silent Movies: Sometimes the audio just… doesn’t generate. It’s a known bug in both Flow and the API.
  • 📌 Surprise Accents: You might get some unexpected accents depending on the context of your prompt.

He also used this test to push Veo 3’s facial expressions and was pretty happy with his avatar’s acting. This is a total game-changer for creators!

Seriously, go check out Tianyu Xu’s original post to see the video and get the full details from the man himself!
